At Westgarth Primary School our intent is to deliver a broad and balanced, progressive, knowledge-based curriculum to prepare the children for their next stages and to develop their level of independence, resilience and respect, respect for themselves, others and the world.

The uniqueness of every child is recognised and valued. We have ambition for all children by constantly adapting our learning journey to meet the needs and interests of our children, offering an excellent education underpinned by a broad, culturally rich and powerful curriculum to ensure that all pupils are well equipped for the next stages in their education.

Our curriculum is underpinned by the teaching of knowledge, concepts and values however, creativity is pivotal at Westgarth. We constantly provide a menu of enhancement opportunities to engage learning and to celebrate and develop the individual needs and talents of our pupils, recognising everyone as unique with their own ambitions, skills and dreams. We aim to provide an environment that encourages lifelong learning and supports pupil well- being, mental health and happiness.

Community involvement is also an essential part of our curriculum as we celebrate local traditions, developing new knowledge to enable children to take an active role in events throughout the year. Children leave Westgarth Primary School with a sense of belonging and a collective identity. They are kind, compassionate and appreciative members of society who celebrate others’ achievements. They are proud that they have developed the confidence and skills needed to be learners for life.
